Cricket's three formats and where you can bet
The first step to understanding cricket betting is knowing the formats — because markets and statistics work differently in each one.
T20
The fastest and most popular format. A match ends in just 20 overs, so the situation changes with every ball. BPL and IPL are both played in this format and it is the most familiar to cricket fans in Bangladesh. Live betting on T20 matches at fancywin is especially active.
ODI
A 50-over match where mid-innings statistics matter a great deal. ODI format is seen in T20 World Cup, ICC events and bilateral series. The total runs over/under market is quite popular here.
Test
The longest format, played over five days. A draw is possible, so there are three outcomes — Team A wins, Team B wins or draw. Separate markets exist for wicket sessions, end-of-day scores and innings totals.
Cricket fans in Bangladesh are generally most active during BPL and IPL seasons. Beyond those, the ICC T20 World Cup and bilateral series are considered major betting events. In the fancywin Bet section you can also bet on football and other sports alongside cricket.
How betting on cricket, football and other sports differs
In cricket, match outcomes depend on every wicket, run rate and over — so betting markets are very detailed. In Test cricket a draw is a valid result, meaning three different outcomes are possible across 120+ overs.
In football a match ends within a fixed 90-minute period and the main market is usually 1X2 (home win, draw, away win). Total goals over/under and corner kick markets are also common. Because scorelines change less frequently in football, live odds do not fluctuate as sharply as in cricket.
In other sports like tennis or badminton there are set-by-set markets, while in kabaddi or wrestling points markets are popular. The smart approach is to understand each sport's betting environment before choosing a market.

Popular markets in cricket betting
Once you understand how each market works, betting becomes much easier. Below is a simple explanation of seven markets.
Match Winner
A bet on which team will win the match. Two outcomes in T20 and ODI (Team A or Team B), three in Test (Team A, Team B or draw). Example: if you pick Team B in a match between Team A and Team B, you win only if Team B wins.
Toss Winner
A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The toss matters in cricket, especially given pitch and weather conditions. This is a completely separate market from the match result.
Top Batsman
A bet on which batsman from a team will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. The comparison is among players within the same team, not across both teams.
Total Runs Over/Under
A bet on whether the total runs scored will be more (over) or less (under) than a specified number. Example: whether total runs in the first innings will exceed 160 — this is separate from the match winner market.
Top Wicket-Taker
A bet on which bowler will take the most wickets. The comparison is within a team. The pitch type and the opposing batting lineup play a big role here.
Multi Bet
Combining multiple markets into a single bet. If all selections are correct the return is much higher, but if even one is wrong you lose the entire bet. An example is shown in detail in the odds section below.
Handicap Betting
The weaker team is given a virtual run advantage to make the market more balanced. Example: if Team B is given +15 runs and Team A does not win by more than 15 runs, the bet on Team B wins.
How to read decimal, fractional and American odds
There are three ways to display odds — decimal, fractional and American. The numbers look different but they all express the same winning probability. The two examples below make this clear.
Example 1 — three formats showing equal value
Team A wins, stake ৳500:
| Format | Odds | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.25 | Total return including stake = ৳1,125 |
| Fractional | 5/4 | Profit on ৳500 stake = ৳625 |
| American | +125 | Win 125 on 100, total return including stake ৳1,125 |
If the bet wins: ৳625 profit + ৳500 stake = ৳1,125 returned. If the bet loses: ৳500 is lost.
Example 2 — odds for the favourite
Team B wins, stake ৳500:
| Format | Odds | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 1.80 | Total return including stake = ৳900 |
| Fractional | 4/5 | Profit on ৳500 stake = ৳400 |
| American | -125 | You need to stake 125 to win 100 |
American minus odds mean favourite — you need to stake more to win. On a ৳500 stake, a win returns ৳900 total (profit ৳400).
Multi bet example: if three selections have odds of 1.50, 1.60 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.56 (rounded). So on a ৳100 stake, if all three are correct the return is ৳456. If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.
Knowing the odds format makes betting decisions easier
Remember: The higher the odds, the less likely the betting platform considers that team to win. Lower odds mean favourite — higher odds mean underdog. Both points are clear from examples 1 and 2 above.
Odds shift when a wicket falls — how live in-play betting works
Live betting means placing bets in real time while the match is in progress. It is completely different from pre-match betting — because odds update after every ball.
For example: in a T20, Team A made a good start in their first innings but suddenly lost three wickets. At that moment the odds for Team A to win will lengthen and the odds for Team B to win will shorten. If an in-play bettor believes the situation will recover, they can place a bet on Team A at that point.
Tracking over-by-over changes, adjusting strategy in the middle overs after the powerplay ends, and analysing the run rate in the death overs — these are what make live betting distinct. However, because odds change quickly there is less time to make decisions.

Useful habits for cricket betting
Betting is entertainment — not a guaranteed path to profit. Following a few basic habits keeps the experience more mindful and controlled.
Set a budget
Decide in advance how much you will spend on betting each week or month. Never go beyond that budget — regardless of whether you are winning or losing.
Start with one market
First get a solid understanding of the match winner market. Rather than jumping into all markets at once, build familiarity gradually.
Know your odds format
Decimal, fractional and American all convey the same information. Once you are comfortable with one, set that as your preference on the platform.
Be careful with multi bets
Multi bets offer higher returns, but a single wrong selection loses the whole bet. Practise with small stakes first.
No rushing in live betting
Rather than making instant decisions under the pressure of rapidly changing odds, wait for the situation to settle a little before placing your bet.
Betting is for fun
Treat cricket betting as a form of entertainment — keep a level head after a loss and avoid placing large bets to try to recover.
fancywin has other games beyond cricket too
